Truth be told, I really don’t understand Valentine’s Day. I’ve never been into it, although I would never turn down flowers on any day (HINT HINT). But as I was walking down the row at Williams-Sonoma the other day, I saw this adorable heart-shaped pasta and decided what the hell, let’s celebrate!….pasta can have that effect on me. Also, I wanted an excuse to break out these adorable heart plates from my favorite dinnerware brand!
This is our second Valentine’s Day as a married couple but our first in our new home in Dallas, so I/we decided to embrace it. However, this year Valentine’s Day also fell on Ash Wednesday, so I knew I needed a quick dinner that we could make and eat before church. What’s easier than 10 minute pasta? (You might say eating out, to which I would say “On Valentine’s Day?? Are you crazy?!”)
So, this Valentine’s Day we ate an entire bag of adorable, heart-shaped pasta, walked to church, then shared a bottle of wine at this old restaurant downtown, while everyone we encountered asked us if we knew there was “something” on our foreheads…ashes from Ash Wednesday. Nonetheless, it was a perfect, low-key Valentine’s Day just like I like them.
